Erin Wen: Osteopathic Manual Therapy

"My goal is to restore and optimize the body’s innate ability to heal itself."

Erin Wen

My fascination with the human body began early, through classical ballet and jazz dance. That passion for movement evolved into a deeper curiosity about healing, which led me to complete a 200-hour Vinyasa yoga certification from Yoga to the People while living in New York. I also earned a B.S. in Applied Psychology from NYU in 2011.

While teaching yoga, I felt called to deepen my understanding of the body’s capacity to heal. I traveled to India and studied with master teachers at the Himalayan Iyengar Yoga Centre in Dharamsala and the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram in Chennai. But it was during this time that a personal health crisis truly shifted my path.

After contracting typhoid fever and enduring months of post-treatment fatigue and digestive issues, a close friend introduced me to osteopathic care. The treatment was life-changing. I began volunteering at the clinic, studying the work closely, and eventually pursued formal training myself.

I completed a Master’s in Osteopathy and Naturopathy from the British College of Osteopathic Medicine, along with a Foundation Course at the Institute of Classical Osteopathy in the UK. My practice is also informed by my training as a certified doula through the Original Instructions School with Brittany Jade, and my experience offering osteopathic care and labor support at Manos Abiertas, a natural birth center in Guatemala.

In 2022, I expanded my women’s health focus by completing an advanced pelvic floor course with Martin Beaudoin. This training continues to inform my work with postpartum recovery, menstrual health, and pelvic floor dysfunction.

In 2023, I became a Yoga Tune Up© certified instructor, I am eternally grateful for Jill Miller's teachings. She transformed both my teaching style and therapeutic work; merging the worlds of myofascia, biomechanics, and corrective exercises. Today, I am one of the content writers at Tune Up Fitness.

Now practicing in Northern California, I offer compassionate, evidence-based osteopathic manual therapy for clients in Nevada City and the Grass Valley area. My approach is intuitive, grounded, and tailored to each person’s unique needs—restoring movement, resilience, and vitality through gentle, integrative touch.

WHAT IS OSTEOPATHY?

Osteopathy is a holistic system of healthcare founded in the late 1800s by Dr. Andrew Taylor Still, who believed that many health issues stem from imbalances in the body’s structure. He developed a philosophy that views the body as a self-healing, interconnected system—where structure and function are intimately related.

Osteopathic practitioners use hands-on techniques to assess and support the health of the musculoskeletal, nervous, circulatory, and visceral systems. Rather than just treating symptoms, osteopathy seeks to restore balance and promote the body’s natural ability to heal itself. Today, osteopathic approaches are practiced around the world by both medically licensed physicians and highly trained manual therapists.

Osteopathic Manual Therapy

Osteopathic Manual Therapy (or Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy) applies osteopathic principles through gentle, precise touch to release tension, improve mobility, and support nervous system regulation. It often includes subtle techniques like cranial and visceral work to promote whole-body harmony.

Core Principles of Osteopathy
Osteopathy is effective for treating a wide range of conditions, from musculoskeletal pain to systemic and neurological disorders, with a focus on long-term balance and well-being.
